I helped out at an IBLP conference last week, mainly behind the book table. On this table lay three sets of Elsie Dinsmore audiobooks. (My own family has conflicting opinions on Elsie. My young sister enjoys them but sniggers at the 90% of story that involves Elsie throwing herself on the bed and weeping. My dad concedes rather dourly that, at age seven, "Elsie has more virtues than the Apostle Paul" but bought them anyhow as a sort of child-improving method.)
A teenage boy—taller than me and about as macho-looking they come—and his aunt came by. The aunt seemed to be looking for something to buy for someone. They glanced about for a few seconds and then the young man contributed his opinion to this venture.
"Oh, Elsie Dinsmore! You should definitely get those. They're great. They're fantastic. Just fantastic."
Will wonders never cease?
Interesting...unexpected...and hilarious. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow...He accualy READ "Elsie Dismore?" O.o That's a little on the scary side. It's funny, though!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Aly. Indeed. :)

ReplyDeleteWell.. My older brother has read some of them too... But when he was 10-12. *slightly amused smile*
maybe one day I should read these, huh? lol
ReplyDeleteThey'ed by chucked across the room, probebly... ;) If 90% of the time Elsie DOES throw herself on her bed and start wailing. Can't stand stuff like that.
ReplyDelete*falls off chair backwards in a dead faint*
ReplyDeleteWha...wh..wha..WHAT was that again?!?!?! Seriously. You'd have sooner said that your gfandfather's uncle was a kangaroo, I think. I share your family's opinion on Elsie - I cannot stomach books where all the heroines do is sob. And she DID seem to be a LITTLE too immortal in her piousness.
But for a YOUNG MAN.....(eyes bulge). Wonders in this world shall never cease to exist. Although I really do think you should submit that to the Guinness Book of World Records.
