So, Krys and Valia and I have undertaken the challenge of reading War and Peace, starting yesterday. (It was supposed to be during the month of December, but I doubt we'll finish in a month, unless we read 46.7 pages a day. Which is quite doable, but going through it slowly and discussing it is more fun.)
I'm posting this here partly to advertise and partly so I'll be properly humiliated if I quit. We've started a reading group blog and are sort of figuring this out as we go along, but the more the merrier!

Come join us!
Yay!! Bravoest, Aly!! I'll cheer you on, give you a shoulder to fall asleep on in the middle of your forty pages, and will fight off anyone who threatens you with humiliation! Grrr! :P
ReplyDeleteI was pleased to discover my library has a nice thick copy. So if you get tired of your copy, you can come over and read mine. :)
Hurrah and Hurray! :) This ought to be fun- I read twenty pages or so (which incidentally took me past chapter four, I think) and it promises to be *quite* interesting.

I wish I had copy!

ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Kayla - haha, thanks!
ReplyDeleteKrys - doesn't it? I'm on chapter eleven or something like that now...
Hannah - I wish you did too. :P Library? I suppose you could read it online, but am I the only one who hates looking at a soulless screen instead of paper?
The Other Hannah - I am IGNORING you.
Yes! I'm finding it actually something easy to get into and so far it doesn't drag at all. The pages fly by...and I'm only on page 40 or so. (Yes, I read about twenty pages a day so I don't get too far ahead of Valia...)
ReplyDeleteAll you have to do is read roughly a hundred pages a day. It's not that hard. ;) *Aly keeps ignoring her* Ah well....
ReplyDeleteAnd Krys, whatever it was I said at the top, goes for you, too! :) *hugs* Love ya!
ReplyDeleteKrys - heh, we should be posting this on The Blog instead of here. :P (but I'd just as soon wait for Valia anyway, so...) I'm at page 90-ish but will most certainly fall behind in the next few days. Busyness... Yes, he's not nearly so...dense? as Hugo or Dickens, or even Tolkien.
ReplyDeleteHannah - A hundred pages a day to finish in four days? Then you must have read an abridged version. *gaspchokefaint* I am APPALLED, my dear. :P The unabridged one is about 1400-1500 pages long, so almost 400 pages a day.
*stifles a snort* Ahem. 400 pages a day is, er, alot.
ReplyDeleteKayla: Thanks! ;)
Kelsey: Er, yes. I thought about that, posting on that blog, but I'd kind of like to wait for Valia...or something. ;) I suppose dense is the word- although not dense in the bad sort, of course. :)
I don't think it was abridged....It was about six inches thick. LOL Small print, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's MUCH easier than LM. Not as many ramblings. ;)
*comes in very belatedly* Sorry, sorry, sorry! I am glad to hear that though you have been most exceedingly kind to wait some for me, you have been reading W&P. :-D I shall do my absolute best to read ginormous amounts over the long weekend, so that I shall not fall too far behind when the intersession starts. :-P
